Press Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LADYS Program - Cville makes a commitment to mentor our future generation

November 9, 2016

LADYS Program - Cville, Board of Directors

Charlottesville, VA - Our nation is experiencing a shocking moment in history and remarks shown in the past 24 hours are concerning. We hear you. The Board of Directors of the LADYS Program - Cville have made a commitment to continue serving our younger sisters through mentorship and keeping them informed, motivated, and empowered.

We directly work with 24 women of which 12 are female high school students from the Charlottesville area, serving as LADYS (mentees) of our program, and 12 are female college students from the University of Virginia volunteering their time to serve as mentors. The Board of Directors (BOD) is comprised of 10 women. Our directors have all graduated from prestigious colleges and universities throughout the state of Virginia. They are Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Incorporated and they come from different countries and cultures around the world. The BOD members are located across the country and they volunteer their time to make this non-profit happen in Charlottesville, Virginia so we can serve our younger sisters.

The population we serve and work with is the “minority,” but we have strength and unity when we come together. We must continue to empower our younger sisters and assure them that their efforts to pursue a higher education and passionate careers, and to be leaders in their community will not go unnoticed and unrewarded. Our bi-monthly workshops work to achieve this and more.

Our efforts for programming, outreach, and fundraising will continue for the rest of the 2016-2017 academic year. We ask you to support us in our journey and goals. Our next workshop is today, November 9th 2016, at the University of Virginia focused on Getting to College/Llegando a la universidad. Our next initiatives will continue with fundraising on Giving Tuesday/Un día para dar, November 29th 2016, and during the holiday season. We are an organization completely funded through donors, grants, and partnerships in our community.

We encourage you to reach out to us with any ideas of how we can better serve our youth. For more information, ways to get involved and to sign up for our newsletter, please visit our website:
